Circle line

Color maps usually show the Circle line as a yellow line.

The Circle line starts in Hammersmith, passes through Paddington, then follows a loop from Edgware Road. The Circle line serves many of the major London National Rail stations.

Rather than calling the directions of London Underground services on the Circle line "clockwise" or "anticlockwise", the convention is to call the directions "eastbound" or "westbound", according to the direction of services on the line with which the Circle line services share platforms at that station.

Between Hammersmith and Liverpool Street, London Underground services on the Circle line and on the Hammersmith and City line share platforms.

Between Baker Street and Aldgate, London Underground services on the Circle line and on the Metropolitan line serve the same route, sharing platforms between Great Portland Street and Liverpool Street.

Between Tower Hill and South Kensington, London Underground services on the Circle line and on the Upminster branch of the District line share platforms. When eastbound (anticlockwise), London Underground services on the Circle line also share a platform with London Underground services on the Upminster branch of the District line at Gloucester Road.

Between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road, London Underground services on the Circle line and on the Edgware Road branch of the District line share platforms.

Between South Kensington and Gloucester Road, London Underground services on the Circle line and on the Piccadilly line serve the same route.

Starting at Hammersmith and working clockwise, station by station:

1. Hammersmith. Change for London Underground services on the Hammersmith and City line.
